Can I Take Warfarin Along With N Acetyl Carnitine ?

Hi Doc, I ve recently had a free sport supplement sent to me with my usual whey protein order. It s supposed to help fat metabolism, it s called N Acetyl Carnitine . I just wondered if there are any known interactions between this and the medication Warfarin/Coumadin?? As I am on this for life. But I m also trying to lose weight (fat) for the summer and just want to know if it s safe for me to take? Many thanks for your time. Dave

Dear Dave, Hi & Welcome.

This combination may increase the risk of bleeding.

N Acetyl Carnitine might increase the anti-clotting effects of Warfarin and increase the chances of bruising and bleeding.

Consult your treating doctor to adjust the dose of Warfarin if you wish to continue to take N Acetyl Carnitine and maintain the lab tests such as Prothrombin time and INR within their optimum ranges.

Hope this answers your query.

Best wishes.
