Can I Take Sudafed To Stop Sneezing And Is It Safe To Take It After Surgery?

I had gallbladder removal surgery and umbilical hernia repair 8 days ago. I now have a cold and keep sneezing and coughing and where my gallbladder was removed really hurts. Can I take Sudafed to stop the sneezing or is that not safe after this surgery?

Hello,

Typically the main ingredient in Sudafed is a decongestant, such as pseudoephedrine, which is also a vasoconstrictor.

This will not affect the surgery, and especially 8 days post surgery, should not cause any problems related to the surgery.

Something else that may help more with your cold and sneezing would be an antihistamine/decongestant combination, like Claritin-D or Zyrtec-D.

This would also be safe to take at this point in your recovery from the surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
