Can One With Inguinal Hernia Run A Race?

Hi... I just found out I have an Inguinal Hernia. It doesn't hurt. This is my triathlon season and I have a race this weekend. Is it still OK for me to do the race? I know with hernia's you shouldn't lift heavy objects, but is swimming, biking and running a concern?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Hernia is an outpouching from the normal containment of the organ, contains internal organs in some cases, has a neck and if small can cause obstruction and such problems.
Hence I would advise you not to do anything that increases intra-abdominal straining. So no running a race.
Take rest.
Consult your General Surgeon for examination, evaluation, preoperative preparation and getting an appointment for surgery.
