Can Prolonged Usage Of Fluvoxamine 100 Cause Drowsiness?

Hello Doctor, I have been taking maintenance dosage of 100 mg Fluvoxamine and 10 mg Nexito on daily basis for past 2 - 2.5 years. This dosage started as a result of my going in depression about 3 years ago and since then I took proper treatment from my city doctor who started with different dosages and later on fixed me at the above rate. But I have re-located since long work as an IT professional in Bangalore. I feel I can t concentrate as much as I used to 4 years back and mentally loose track during long meetings and analysis studies.Also feel drowsy and sleep if I try studies for more than 1.5 hours at a go. I need to know how medication is affecting me and how to gently lower the daily consumption . Is it due to prolonged usage of Fluvoxamine 100 ? or Nexito 10? How to switch to a lower daily dosage?

Yes, the usage for a long time of Fluvoxamine 100 and Nexito 10 mg can cause drowsiness.

•     Detailed Answer: Both medications have the ability to increase levels of serotonin in the blood.

Serotonin is a chemical produced by the body that enables brain cells and other nervous system cells to communicate with one another.

Too little serotonin in the brain is thought to play a role in depression. Too much, however, can lead to excessive nerve cell activity, causing a potentially deadly collection of symptoms such as:

•     Nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, loss of appetite, trouble sleeping, weakness, sweating, etc.

In your case, it is better to see a doctor. The doctor will judge the doses of these medications.
