Can Shingles Spread To Genial Area And Cause Genital Herpes?

Hi, I went to the doctor yesterday and she thinks I have genital herpes. I have been married for 19 years and have not had sex with anyone else since and neither has my partner. I have had shingles before and suffer from anxiety and depression and have been under a great deal of stress lately. The itching in the genital area was driving me mad like the shingles I had previously. So how could I have genital herpes if both my husband and I have had no other partners and could it be shingles in the genital area?

Thank you for query.Herpes Simplex 1 or 2 can be easily contracted through Kiss or by skin-to-skin contact without an apparent and obvious open or noticeable sore/blister. It depends on the infectivity status of person, presence of virus in infective material at that time, the time of exposure of infective material with contact,etc.you could have got by any route.If examined by a doctor and diagnosed it is likely to be it.Take precaution when active lesions are present to prevent its spread to partner.You can get back for any clarifications.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist.
