Can The Dosage Of Oxcarbazepine Be Reduced To Come Out Of Its Effects?

I have been taking Oxcarbazepine since 01/14/2014 beginning at 300MG twice daily and increasing to 450MG twice a day 01/20/2014. Can I safely come off this medication by stepping down the dosage? The side effects are severe and i have not been able to contact the prescribing physician.

Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Oxcarbezipne dose can be reduced at the rate of 10% every 2 weeks.
However, reducing the dose or discontinuing the medication can cause seizures, worsening bipolar symptoms.
So another medication for your underlying condition should be added while discontinuing oxcarbazepine.

Hope this answers your question
