Cause For Abnormal Tiredness Along With Pain Under The Rib Cage?

I had lab work done recently and it came back with me being severely anemic. My labs show Hemoglobin at 9.4, my hematocrit at 32, MCV 70, MCH 21, MCHC 29, RDW 19 and platelets at 464. Iron was a 14 and my Ferritan at 2. This is with me taking liquid iron everyday for 6 weeks. I work full time, but I absolutely exhausted I sleep about 14 to 16 hours a day, my joints (wrist, ankles, knees and back hurt so bad, somedays I am in so much pain I can't get out of bed, I have no appetite, I feel full all the time. I prefer to eat ice all day and night I crave it. I have pain under my left side of my rib cage. My General Practitioner is sending me to a hemotologist next week. My concern is that there may be something else going on? What questions should I ask my hemotologist?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi there.

It seems that you are suffering from Polyarthralgia (multiple joints and muscular pain).
It is a symptom of many diseases. ....so it would be wise to find out the primary cause.
Tiredness is also one of its symptoms.

Get the following blood test done :
1. Complete Arthritis panel. .....with special focus on RA factor
2. Anti CCP antibody test
3. CRP quantitative titre
4. Serum Calcium levels.

Meanwhile start on anti arthritic medication like XXXX .
Start XXXX .
Short course steroid under strict supervision will help relieve the acute phase.

Further treatment will depend on blood reports results.
I hope my advice has helped
Good luck
