Child. Green, Grainy, Watery Diarrhea, Acidic, Terrible Rash On Bottom. No Other Symptoms. Suggest

Hello. My two year-old son has been having green, grainy watery diarrhea for three days. It is very acidic and he has a terrible rash that has led to some skin break down, no matter how qickly I change him. It is practically odorless, he has no fever,no vomiting, appetite is good, and hasnt eaten anything different or out of the ordinary lately. What's up with him and what do you suggest to treat and protect his bottom?

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child is having gastroenteritis mostly of a viral cause due to which he developed diaper dermatitis.

The mainstay of treatment in diarrhea is to maintain hydration of the child by giving oral rehydration solutions like Pedialyte.

Diaper rash is because of frequent passage of stools and frequent cleaning of the skin.

Rash decreases as the loose stools decreases.

Clean the area gently after passing stool and allow the area to get dry.

You can apply zinc oxide containing creams which are available over the counter.

Consult your pediatrician for the treatment of diarrhea.
