Child. Pain In Groin Area, Lower Back Pain, On And Off High Fever. All Tests Normal Except Slightly Enlarged Spleen. Advice
For about 6 weeks, my 2 year old has had pain in his groin area, low back pain, and has a high fever that comes and goes. It is never under 103 when he has the fever, and it will linger for a day or two and then go away. There are no other symptoms affiliated with the fever. We have had blood work, urinalysis, and ultrasounds done. The only thing out of the ordinary is his spleen is slightly large, at 9.5cm. Any ideas what could be the cause. Any advice?
Before I can answer, I would like to know a few things about your son's condition.
Before this fever, has he had similar type of complaints in the past. Has he had pain in his legs or back for longer durations. Does he have any redness or tenderness in his groin or lower back area. Is he walking and doing all his activities normally as before. What were the results of his complete blood count and differential count. Has he had a peripheral smear done.
I would suggest that if his fever is returning and he is continuing to have low back pain, you might need to consult a specialist like infectious disease expert and you might want to discuss with your pediatrician about the need for further testing like CT scan or other tests that may give us more clue onto whats going on.
