Child Has Loss Of Energy, Lethargy, Excessive Sleep. Worry?

My child is 6 years old and does not have any energy. He never wants to go outside to play and he takes naps early in the day, after lunch and school. His appetite is good, but he never eats alot of food at dinner time. He lays on the couch watching tv and drifts into and out of sleep.
Is there anything to be alarmed about, because this worries us.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Every child will have his own temperament and it is the reason for his activity level.

But previously active child becomes dull, lethargic, and sleepy, the causes has to be looked for.

Physical examination is important to rule out any underlying medical causes for this symptoms.

Anemia and hypothyroidism has to be ruled out by doing investigations like complete blood picture and thyroid profile after physical examination.

Consult pediatrician as early as possible for physical examination and for management.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
