Child Has Swollen Foot, Bruising After Injury. Applied Ice, Taken Ibuprofen

My 13 year old daughter is a dancer and caught the heel of her tap shoe in a grate on the stage during a Friday night night dress rehearsal. She was almost in tears when she came off the stage. We taped it and she was able to dance Saturday night but it hurt. Her foot is slightly swollen with a lump in the middle top of her foot with very slight bruising on the bottom of the foot. She can put weight on it but it hurts when she bends her foot (like when trying to walk on it normally) It was also hurting severly today while sitting in her desk at school. She thinks she may had it bent wrong while sitting. Ice and Ibuprofen have not helped.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

It seems she developed sprain of the ligaments.

But fracture has to be ruled out by doing an X ray.

Give rest to her and tell her to avoid that limb movements and to keep the leg in elevated position by using a pillow.

You can continue applying ice and ibuprofen can be given in prescribed dose with food.

Consult the doctor for physical examination to evaluate for fracture and for necessary treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
