Child With Autistic, Had Cold, Fever And Runny Nose. History Of Kawasaki Disease. Suggestion?
Hello. My son is 2 and autistic (non verbal). I thought he had a cold as he has a runny nose . He also has high temperature-been giving calpol and nurofen appropriately. However, he is unusually tired and faster to fall asleep. His sensory processing appears different (e.g now hates hoover, but loved before poorly), he is overly clingy and earlier was making whimpering type sounds. He has a history of kawasaki disease in summer of 2011, and thank fully all ecgs came back fine. Does my above description sound like a cold to you? Thank you for your time, kim
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
Your child seems to have a viral illness with cold.
Continue calpol in prescribed dose 6th hourly for fever.
For cold you can give an oral antihistamine like oral cetirizine or chlorpheniramine in prescribed dose.
Give plenty of oral fluids to prevent dehydration.
It is looking like a cold only with your description.
Hope I have answered your query.
You son can have upper respiratory tract infection. The fever and running nose is sufficient to suggest that. A sick child can become irritable and does cling to the parents.
Continue giving the medicines and, if required, add some decongestant.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Wishing your son an early recovery.
Regards,
RKK
