Child With Chicken Pox. Taking Acetaminophen. Found Swelling. Common?
My daughter is having chicken pox for the last two days, she is resting and we have given acetaminophen twice for temperature in the last two days, now suddenly we found there are slight swelling of same size behind the ears, not the pox but swelling, we are little concerned...is this common during the infection or ????

Hi, what you see at the back of the ear are lymph nodes which are small swellings which get slightly enlarged when there is infection,chicken pox in your case.We all have lymph nodes all over the body.You could feel the swellings since there is less fat behind the ear.,If you are sure about the chicken pox acetaminophen should be good enough.I would not worry about the swellings behind the ear ( possibly lymph nodes) which will subside in the next few weeks,thanks

Swelling behind the ear are lymphnodes which get enlarged due to infection.and they decrease in size once infection gets settled.
You can continue with acetaminophen if temperature is above 100F.
Apply calamine lotion over lesions and if there ia itching you can give antihistamines for symptomatic relief.
Give plenty of fluids and soft bland diet to maintain hydration and nutrition.
In case symptoms persist get her evaluated by pediatrician.

Post auricular lymph nodes usually present in this area and may increase in size due to inflammation caused by the virus or a secondary bacterial infections of the chickenpox lesions.
Continue acetaminophen for fever in prescribed dosage if there is fever.
Consult your Pediatrician if there is increasing in the size of lesions.
