Child With Cold And Pain Around Naval Often. Mild Anaemic. Is It A Gastric Problem?

Dear Doctor, My daughter is 7yrs old, her weight is 19kg and height of 120cm. She falls ill very frequently such that she is only well for a week maximum. She falls ill due to common cold the most She for a few months is complaining about pain around the navel, mostly after eating. So far her urine and blood are tested and results show mild anemia , HB:10.4 We have visited many doctors and they are unable to identify what is the exact problem. They are saying that it is due to gas build in stomach and priscribe digestive enzymes and antacids but there is no change. Waiting for your reply.

Hi Reenamalayil,
Thanks for writing your query.

Pain in abdomen along with low hemoglobin can be due to worms in the intestinal tract. You can do deworming by giving her Albendazole 200 mg at night. You should have her stool examined and if the problem persists, get an ultrasound of whole abdomen done. Antacids and digestive enzymes preparation can be given.

Care should be given at her eating habits. Hygeinic conditions should be maintained during preparation and eating of food. Always use pure filtered water for drinking. Encourage her to wash her hands before eating as washing hands prevents a lot of germs and infection from entering our body and thereby reduce the frequency of falling ill. Also give her fresh fruits and vegetables as these increase the immunity of the body to fight the infection.

I hope this is helpful to you.
Thanks.
