Child With Recurrent Fever, Cough, Throat Infection. Advised Febrex, Levolin, Diet. No Relief. Suggestions?

Hello Sir,

My daughter, 5 years old, is not well now a days. It all started with a fever last Thursday (May 16th) possibly contracted through my wife who was suffering from viral fever for last 3 days. We gave her febrex and the fever subsided by evening only to come back next day morning with a cough. On seeing the doctor he found redishness in her throat, a possible throat infection, but adviced us to go with a conservative approach and prescribed us Levolin syrup (4 times a day) and febrex (as and when required in 6/4 hrs gap). Her fever subsided by Sunday but still sometimes around 99 degrees but cough was still persistent. We again took her to the doctor yesterday and he has now recommended to start with an antibiotic ('Duet' syrup). We gave a dose yesterday but she again had fever last evening and early today morning with small cough now and then (more so before she goes to sleep and sometime during midnight).

Would you have any advice for us in this scenario as we are not sure where is this leading to or should we be patient and continue with antibiotic dose.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

It appears that your daughter is suffering from Bronchitis .Since fever is also present it might be due to bacterial infection.Better way to diagnose would be to get blood check done to confirm a bacterial infection.

If bacterial infection is confirmed on blood check then continue with the antibiotics. The fever will take 72 hrs to disappear post antibiotics.

Regards
Take care.
