Chronic Loud Hiccups Through Out Day, Getting Worse. Possible Reason?

My son, who is 16 yrs old, has a chronic condition where he will do something like a hiccup/burp. He will do this throughout the day and is very annoying for him. They can be quite loud and are usually high pitched in sound. He has had this problem for a couple of years and it seems to be getting slightly worse as time progresses. Do you have any idea what this might be? Should I be worried or is this something harmless?
Thank you for your input and help.

Hi
thanks for your question.
based on my experience with hiccup clients
you do not need to be worried especially if hiccups do not cause difficult in breathing, if hiccups are not associated with fever.
Its important to have your son investigated for the cause of hiccups because some causes of hiccups like gastro esophageal reflux, phrenic nerve problems, can be corrected surgically and medically. See doctor for investigation above
Hope I answered your question.
