Constant Diarrhea, Cramps. On Rehydration Drinks. No Report From Stool Tests And Blood Tests. Any Ideas?

Hello I have had constant diarhia for three days. I've seen my GP and they've sent a stool away and taken blood tests. Today, the third day, I am getting less cramps but going to the toilet every 15-20 mins and it is very runny and almost pouring out of me. They don't know if it is gastrointeritis or food poisoning and have given me rehydration drinks. Any ideas what it could be or when the diarhia will stop. Luckily no vomiting

Pathologist and Microbiologist Dr. Vandana Khare's  Response
Hi!
welcome to HCM!
You are suffering from acute diarrhea.Acute diarrhea is usually caused by a bacterial, viral, or parasitic infection and is usually accompanied by cramping, abdominal pain, nausea, an urgent need to use the toilet.Several types of bacteria consumed through contaminated food as in food poisoning or water can cause diarrhea.
In most cases of diarrhea, the only treatment necessary is replacing lost fluids and electrolytes to prevent dehydration.in bacterial diarrhea antibiotics are required.since your cramps are less so it seems to be improving, keep on taking rehydration fluids since no vomiting is there so you can take soft bland diet.your tests have already been sent so dont worry !take care!
