Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I work in a group home setting and have noticed that after eating raisins, one of my residents seems to have tiny, white, worms in his stool. They seem to go away rather quickly after a few bowel movements. He does not have any contact with animals, and we keep the house disinfected. Could the raisins potentially be causing the worms in his stool?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Raisins or anything that have eggs of thepin or thread or any worms can have worms in the stool and these are particularly prone to re-infestations as the eggs are laid on the peri-anal area in the night and the person itches at night to have eggs under the nails to be swallowed again. Hence needed is repeated courses of Albendazole or Mebendazole or Pyrentel Palmoate. Cleanliness of the house has to be maintained as you have already mentioned. Paring the nails, cleaning the hands with soap and water and avoiding foods from outside is the key for cure.
