I have pain on my left side right under my ribs. I can feel it through my back in the same area. The pain dosent feel superficial it feels deep. I also feel nasuea all the time vomit once in a while have no appetite and belch a lot. This pain has been going on for a couple weeks but when it first came on it was more tollerable than it is today. The pain/discomfort is constant but varies in degree during day??? Marcie

Hi and thanks for the question,
pain round the region you describe could either be of abdominal or pleural origin.
The pain, nausea and going to the back could suggest an acute renal colic. This is very classical and diagnosis will require and abdominal ultrasound and a urine examination.
If not, a pneumonia could mimic these same symptoms and a chest X ray could be very helpful.
Consulting our primary care physician for an abdominal ultrasound and chest X ray., blood tests and urine \tests, coupled with a good and comprehensive clinical evaluation are key steps in making an appropriate diagnosis and drawing up the needed treatment plan.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
