Diagnosed With GERD, Gastritis, Palpitations, Heart Attack. On Antacid Nexium, Whey Protein And Motilium. What Is Going On?

Hi,

I am Denver from the Philippines, 32 yrs. old. 3 years ago I was diagnosed with GERD and gastritis. I got tripped to different clinics and hospitals and was prescribed the following:

Nexium and Motilium (first 2 doctors)
Prevacid, Motilium, Ganaton, Mucosta, Flagentyl, Duphalac, Pantoloc and Senna Forte - last doctor

Nexium did not help me a lot but the last doctor who gave me a lot of meds after I did an upper GI endo from him said that I was not given a right combination meds from my previous doctors so he gave me a lot of meds as mentioned. He was my final doctor then and after a couple of months, suprisingly there was an improvement and at the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2011, my symptoms of GERD suddenly disappeared. I can say that because when I ate crappy foods or spicy food, there was no more reaction on my stomach especially the sharp gnawing sensation after eating as if I was having a heart attack. So I was happy then but occasionally, the symptoms were still popping out but not all the times and I can live with it and I carried this normal feeling for 2 yrs then but last week August 5, 2013, I begin feeling weird while eating. Everytime I eat and the food passes in the middle of my chest which I can imagine passing through the LES, there was a pounding in my chest or palpitations from the heart for 2 to 3 secs and even when I am about to burp it is the same feeling. Though it disappears right away after the burp. At first, I did not mind it since I thought it was just a normal heart palpitations due to stress but I got worried when the following days, it is now frequent and pounding near the heart or heart palpitaions is really triggered with the scenarios I have mentioned. I carried this symptoms until now and last weekend I tried to research and they all lead me to GERD. So what I did is I take a mild antacid called Kremil-S 15 minutes before a meal but it did not help so just take Mepraz Omeoprazole 20mg yesterday (without doctor's prescription) and according to the indication to take once for 4 to 8 wks. It helps me somehow in the sense that palpiations are not that often as well as the burping. I will try and observe this for 1 week and if it still does not help I will visit my gastro and I'm afraid he will recommend an upper GI endoscopy again :(. Anyways, to give you additional info I started feeling this when I added the following on my diet.

Nitrotech Whey protein 1 scoop only everytime I go to gym. (Have taken 3 to 4 times a week and almost 2 weeks prior to the symptoms)
Ceres fruit juices (Have taken also for 2 weeks 3 to 4 times prior to the symptoms)

So I am cutting off both today because I feel that they are the ones to blame. Do you think one of them is the cause of the symptoms?

I've been into gym and running for almost 2 to 3 yrs now so I can guarantee that my heart is just fine. Actually even though I feel such symptoms, I still go to gym and I was just fine after my exercise.

Hope I have give you the needed information and please enlighten me what's this symptoms all about and if this is a serious condition and if I'll carry this on to the rest of my life. Thanks! God Bless!

Hi
Thanks for using Health Care Magic Forum,

Lifestyle changes

I suggest some lifestyle changes that can help control your GERD symptoms. These include:

Maintain a healthy weight.
Quit smoking.
Limit alcohol.
Avoid eating 3 hours before lying down.
Raise the head of your bed.
Avoid foods that can make GERD symptoms worse (spicy foods, fatty foods, mint, chocolate, tomato-based foods, coffee, and citrus fruits).

Surgery to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter (Linx). The Linx device is a ring of tiny magnetic titanium beads that is wrapped around the junction of the stomach and esophagus. The magnetic attraction between the beads is strong enough to keep the opening between the two closed to refluxing acid, but weak enough so that food can pass through it. The new device has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. It can be implanted using minimally invasive surgery methods.

Hoping Speedy recovery without surgical intervention.

I Hope I Provided Useful Information. Do ask Furthur Questions to help You get well soon.
