Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was directed to use magnesium citrate (due to x-ray showing much waste - constipate roughly 2 months) by PA so I did Friday afternoon. Much diarhea continuing yesterday. Had toast & jelly -not so good. Today had black coffee, vegs and eggs - OK. Then 1/2 avocado - more diarrhea . Then white chicken twice - OK. Then some (cooked) sweet potato - OK so far. I want to go to work tomorrow, preferably without racing to men s room or soiling clothes. What do you recommend to get started or correct what I ve done? Male, white, 58, no Rx, (thin, NOT obese)
I understand your concerns. I usually prescribe Loperamide to treat diarrhea. Loperamide comes as a tablet, capsule, and liquid to take by mouth. It usually is taken immediately after each loose bowel movement; it is sometimes taken on a schedule (one or more times a day) for chronic diarrhea. Follow the directions on the package or on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take loperamide exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. If your symptoms do not improve within 2 days (10 days for chronic diarrhea) or if you develop a fever or bloody stools, call your doctor. Drink plenty of water or other beverages to replace fluids lost while having diarrhea.
I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!
