Do My Husband Need To Consult Neurologists For Possible MS?
My husband is waiting to get into a neurologists for possible MS, he is 41 a supervisor for the railroad(so the sooner diagnosis the better) and it seems to take along time to get in, anyway his family doctor has done a million blood test on him, and all have come back negative, accept today they said he has low testorone and diabetic but wouldn t tell him the a1c number, just scheduled him for another appointment, my question is if he does have MS could that make his a1c higher because of the all the pain he is in? I am insulin pump diabetic for years and my husband just doesn t have the symptons of a diabetic.
Im sorry for the pain you and your husband are going through. diagnosis of MS is difficult and hence requires extensive work up and time. as for your query regarding hbA1c levels, other than diabetes it can be raised in certain types of anemia, some genetic blood disorders and after the use of drugs like corticosteroids etc. it is possible for your husband to have diabetes without the typical symptoms but I'm sure the doctors are working on his diagnosis based on other investigations including fasting blood sugar and oral glucose tolerance test etc. the diagnosis of diabetes is not made on hbA1c level only. hope that answers your question.
