Do You Think My Panic Attacks Could Be Due To Low Serotonin And Will Last Forever?

I believe ive developed a type of ocd which gives me hours of pain and panic attacks until i can calm down which only last temporarily, I have also experienced what i think could be mild panic attacks about becoming crazy and think it could be linked to my recent ectasy taking. I last took some 2 weeks ago and have quit, but these last few days have been some of the hardest of my life, do you think this could be low serotonin and will this last forever?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

You have complaints of persistent panic attacks and OCD. You were taking ecstasy for recreational purpose. In various theories it has been postulated that in OCD and panic attacks levels of serotonin levels are low. Low serotonins transmission is responsible for such symptoms. Ecstasy is MDMA which is an amphetamine drug. The drug is known to cause intense activation and the drug also results in neurotoxicity. It can cause nervous damage which may complicate to various psychiatric complications. But it cause low serotonin levels has not been proved. I would advise you to quit using ecstasy and consult a psychiatrist for treatment of panic and OCD.

Medicines of SSRI group like fluoxetine, paroxetine, sertraline etc are commonly used in OCD. The medicines are free of serious side effects and are safe to use. Apart from that try relaxation exercises to keep yourself relaxed.

Consult a psychiatrist for prescription of these drugs.

Thanks
