my six months old having diarrhea I m giving him amybact and zincat half tsp once a day. It s 7 days and he still has loose motions. The morning ones are very thin and bigger. He is having 5 a day. Sunday was worst,he had 9. But he is not dehydrated and he seems ok, feeding as usual, but being a mother I m very very depressed. his stools r not smelly, he doesn t have fever. I m just concerned that y it s not getting better. can antibiotic fix it. As everyone in house had ths viral infection of diarrhea including me ths week and we got better. 8 days is too much for a tiny baby. What should i do. How long is ok if baby seems fine. I don t know if he has lost weight. He was 7 kgs earlier in April. I started cerelac rice 10 days prior to ths episode can it be a cause?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Cerelac rice is less likely to cause diarrhea viral diarrhea usually does not require antibiotics. best is to continue with zinc and keep the baby well hydrated. if the child runs fever or becomes lethargic or starts vomiting then additional treatment or investigation may be required.
