Does Lorazepam Cause Or Enhance Hunger?

Can lorazepam enhance/ cause hunger? My husband has been losing weight (30 lbs)and the doctors haven t been able to find the cause. No cancer, immuno-defeciency diseases, gastrological problems. Many blood tests etc. He has no hunger. Today he took a dose of lorazepam and while feeling less anxiety he got hungry. For the first time in ages. what would cause this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Consydering your husbands symptoms, in my opinion anorexia has been caused from anxiety. Lorazepam has antianxiety effect so it doesn't enhance hunger, but making the patient feeling less anxiety improves also the hunger.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata, General & Family Physician
