Does Norovirus Cause Diarrhea And Continuous Vomiting?

My wife felt ill last Sunday morning and had to go to bed at lunchtime. On Tuesday, she stated to vomit together with diarrhoea. This has continued throughout the week. Just a small drink of water comes back within minutes. Thursday, her lips looked as though she was wearing lipstick. She has no pain although when it started, her whole body ached. Family doctors are treating it as Norovirus but I understand this usually passes within 5 days. Please advise,

Hi,

It appears to be due to GI infection. For which I will suggest you to take plenty of fluid and electral powder to prevent fluid and electrolyte insufficiency. Also take a course of probiotics along with mild antispasmodic like drotavarine. Meanwhile get your blood and stool examine (Complete haemogram and stool routine microscopy) to see for any infection and if it is there the a course of antibiotic like ofloxacin will also be required.

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. Wish you a good health.

Regards,
Dr. Amit Jain
