Hi I am in my mid 50's taking Ramipril for high BP and over the past year I have been having problems with accessive mucus in my throat although I do not have a cold etc - my doctors has given me high dosage antibiotics that did nothing and has suggested I may have nasal polyups however I have now been made aware that Ramipril may be the cause of my problem - I am due to see my GP again in 2 weeks and am currently taking a nasal spray which he prescribed I am drinking lots of water etc do you think the Ramipril could be a problem
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read and understood your history and concerns about Ramipril that you have been prescribed for hypertension. You have excessive mucus in the throat in spite of having no cold for the past 1 year. It is not a known side effect of Ramipril, although it can cause coughing. I would suggest you the following: Ask your GP to change over to another medicine for hypertension. See the blood pressure regularly and see if the new medicines reduce or stop the excessive mucus production. Take an opinion of an Allergist and an ENT Surgeon and get a clinical evaluation and treatment, regular review and get cured. There is still a possibility of an allergic component more than any reaction to a medicines. Take care.
