Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Bumped shin on the end of my bed. Was standing on bed to change light and my leg went through a gap between the baseboard and mattress at the end of the bed, so the injury was caused by landing/leaning into the baseboard. Was very painful for a few days with difficulty walking and also extreme bruising, though I usually bruise quite easy. The bruising is mostly gone but there is a large goose egg/hematoma type of lump that started soft but is now quite hard, painful to touch and occasionally makes leg itchy and hot. It is also warm to the touch. It has been there since the injury approximately 3 weeks ago. Cause for concern or will it go away on its own? I keep it elevated at night with a heat pack on it and take ibuprofen occasionally when it causes the most discomfort but haven t seen a noticeable change. Any advice is appreciated.

Does A Bruise On The Shin Get Cured On Its Own?
Hi, Bruises are nothing but a collection of blood underneath the skin and that develop following a trauma. In most of the cases, it will settle by itself without treatment. As of now, you can apply ice packs for faster recovery. If it persists you can consult an orthopedician and get evaluated. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
