Does Amoxicillin Work For White Patch On The Tonsil?

Hi. I have a large white patch on left tonsil. I was treated with amoxicillin about two weeks ago.. And pain seemed to go away. I didn t check to see if white patch had gone away. Originally there was large patch on left tonsil and a few small spots on right. Yesterday I started feeling that scratching feeling so I looked and saw the white patch on left was bigger. And only on one side. Does amoxicillin typically not work for this? And does it have to effect both sides for it to be strep?

White patch persisting after taking amoxycillin points towards tonsillar abscess. In such cases,i usually try with another antibiotic like azithromycin for 3 days, along with frequent warm saline gargles and analgesics. If it does not come down, may need incision and drainage by an ENT surgeon. It is better to avoid cold drinks/food items.
I hope you will find this information useful.Thank you.
