Does An Antibiotic Help To Treat Swollen Gums In A Child?

We have a 22 month old grandson. Has been running a fever for the past several days. Was seen by a Doctor 5 days ago, and told to use Ibuprofen, and given an anti biotic. The little boy, has swollen gums, that extends over part of his teeth. Is this a serious thing? Does the anti biotic usually take care of this? Deeply concerned and need to know the next step we should take. Thank you so much.

Hello dear, welcome to health care magic forum.

Just wait for 2 days .if the fever and swelling comes down, complete the course. Otherwise we will have to change the antibiotics.your doctor will guide you in this.
Also keep good oral hygiene.
Wishing for a faster cure.
Thank you.
