Does Bronchitis Trigger A Heart Failure?

My mother is 92 and was put in the hospital yesterday with bronchitis. The doctor is concerned it could trigger heart failure. Is that a possibility? Her sputum is yellow and she's running a fever. They are giving her IV antibiotics, but he is resistant and her lungs are weak (she's old). Thank you.

HI
Thanks for posting your query to Healthcaremagic.

No bronchitis cannot trigger a heart failure unless she has a weak heart. What it can cause is a respiratory failure , which ultimately can lead to heart failure.

She requires stronger antibiotics , preferable a sputum culture should be sent and antibiotics used as per culture report.

If her condition is deteriorating ask your doctors to put her on Non Invasive Ventilation.

Hope you find this information useful.
