Does Chest And Kidney Pain, Headache, Fever, Diarrhea, Cough Need ER Admission?

My 16 year old son woke up three days ago complaining that the center of his chest hurt whenever he took a breath or moved. Later in the day he complained of a headache and when I took his temperature he had 102 degrees. I took him to the doctor who said his chest was clear and swabbed his throat for strep which turned out negative. He still is running a fever of 101 three days later and now says his kidneys are hurting and he has loose bowels along with a dry cough, chest pain, headache. The doctor told me to bring him back in and so I am tomorrow. She thinks it is a virus. Do you think I should take him to the emergency room tonight?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Most probably this is a viral respiratory infection only. If he is otherwise active and feeding well, we need not worry. Just continue anti-pyretics. Let him take rest, drink enough fluids and have a soft diet. If it is not getting better in 3 days, you can evaluate further with your doctor.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
