Does Codeine Used In Corex Have A Narcotic Effect?

thanks pl let me know the whether the corex cough syrup is advisable and prescribed to which age group what are the ingredients of corex is it true that the Codean ingredient contained in drug corex is having a narcotic effect what types of doctors are prescribing COREX to patient whether is it a banned drug in india

Yes, Corex is banned in india. According to rule,fixed dose combination of centrally acting, antitussive with antihistamine, having high atropine like activity in expectorants is banned. Corex contains chlorpheniramine maleate which is an antihistaminic having atropine like activity, and codeine which is a centrally acting antitussive. Each 5 ml of Corex Cough Syrup contains alcohol IP 8mg,chlorpheniramine Maleate IP 4 mg,Codeine Phosphate IP 10 mg,Carmoisine and Sunset.Corex cough syrup is indicated for the treatment of dry, irritating, disturbing cough in allergic or infective conditions of the respiratory passage, e.g., sinusitis, high fever, pharyngitis, acute bronchitis, tuberculosis, and tropical eosinophilia.Corex also if taken on a long term basis may lead to addiction due to presence of alcohol and codeine. In elderly persons, it may lead to respiratory depression. It is still available in large parts of India. According to me, it is not preferable to have a banned drug.Even you take it, you should not purchase it without prescription of physician. Hope, I satisfied your queries.
