My 5 year old son bumped his head whilst out playing last night. He never made nothing of it, but woke this morning with a blood shot eye. This is on the same side he banged it. seemed fine apart from that. Took him to school, explained to teachers. They said he was fine. Has been all night as well. Eye looking a lot more puffy and sticky. Could this have anything to do with bang to head? If so how serious?? Thank you
I can understand your concern. Redness in eye and swelling around eye could be due to head injury. This redness could be due subconjuctival haemorrhage. Swelling occurs because of collection of blood/inflammatory oozing in subcutaneous tissue. It does not affect vision as optic nerve is spared.
This blood and swelling usually subside in 10-14 days after injury. You can give him anti-inflammatory for fasten recovery after proper prescription. Apply icepacks at swelling. Observe his behaviour, eating habit, general activities, if all these are normal, then no need to worry. If any abnormality, consult ER as soon as possible.
Thanks. Hope it will help you. Take care.
