Does Tooth Extraction Aggravate TMJ Disorder?

Hi, I only have my lower wisdom teeth after having the uppers removed because of repeated cheek biting and recurrent infections. I still bite my cheeks and ocassionally need antibiotics. One dentist at my practice has advised the lower tooth be extracted but another from the same practice (you dont always get to see the same one)said the tooth itself is healthy and that because I have a TMJ disorder which I get quite a bit of pain from, he would advise against having it removed as it will undoubtedly make the TMJ issue worse - is this true? as Im not sure what to do.

thanks for your query, i have gone through your query, if you have repeated cheek biting causing trauma if i am your treating doctor i would advise to go for removal of the teeth since its non functional and associated with amny complications. the TMJ disorder might get aggrevated if you keep your mouth opened too wide for long time during surgical procedure or if abnormal forces are applied during procedure. its better to go for removal of wisdom teeth.. i hope my answer will help you. take care.
