Done Angioplasty. Have Cloudy Urine. Taken Bactrim. Have Diabetes. Complication Of TUR In Large BPH?

It is about 3 weeks that I have cloudy urine. I have a large size BPH. 3 weeks ago I underwent angioplasty and they had to put a Foley catheter for me. I immediately after angioplasty I saw big bubbles in my urine. My GP Dr give me antibiot after culturing my urine that showed e-coli growth. I got to take Bactrim Tab tid. I am not taking any antibiotic now. I consulted a urologist who told me to go back to my GP Dr. He suggested doing a cystoscopy and later on TUR. I asked about complication of TUR in large BPH namely narrowing of my urinary tract. I have type 2 diabetes and my blood sugar in morning before I eat is 165. I am 75 years old. Please tell me what should I do?

Hi,

It is better to follow your doctor's advice as he/she knows better your medical history.

The cloudy urine you are experiencing might be of a probable infection that should be correctly determined by an urine analysis or culture again.

I would suggest to do the cystoscopy first, and after that, your urologist will decide on TUR or other therapy.

Hope it helped!

General & Family Physician Dr. Pavan Kumar Gupta's  Response
Hello,
Your fasting sugar levels of 165 clearly tell that you are having uncontrolled diabetes.Reason for cloudy urine could be due to persistent urinary tract infection caused by uncontrolled diabetes.
Your cloudy urine could also be caused by microalbuminaria due to kidney neuropathy caused by long standing uncontrolled diabetes.
You should do the following....
Get your urine tested for pus cells and albumin.
Get culture and sensitivity of urine done.
If infection is there ,take proper antibiotics.
You must control your diabetes well.
If albumin is found in urine, then consult a nephrologist.
Once UTI and diabetes is controlled, then consult a urologist for BPH surgery.
Thanks
