Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Neck Nerve Pain, Experienced Urinary Retention, Anxiety. Discontinued Elavil. Withdrawal Symptoms?
My son has duchenne muscular dystrophy and was prescribed Elavil for neck nerve pain about 6 years ago.
He is 24 years old and recently experienced urinary retention probably due to the Elavil 75 mg. he received for sleep and pain. Recently, Elavil was discontinued without tapering on September 23, 2013. He is now experiencing what appears to be withdrawal symptoms, including anxiety, sweating, general malaise, shortness of breath, chest discomfort and sometimes fear which subside late in the day. My question refers to his symptoms. Are they indicative of Elavil withdrawal symptoms?

The symptoms that you have mentioned are likely to be due to Elavil withdrawal. These are self limiting symptoms and are likely to subside in next week. He can take a mild pain killer and a mild sedative to help with his symptoms till then.
