Experiencing Shooting Pain In RUQ Under Ribs And Diagnosed With Low Ejection Fraction And Diarrhea , Suggest Treatments .

Hi,

I had an ultrasound a couple weeks ago on my gallbladder which was done in the hospital because I was having a lot of RUQ pain for 4 days. The ultrasound and blood work came back normal. I was sent to go get a HIDA scan done last week and It turns out I have a low ejection fraction of 1% and 5 family members have had their gallbladders out. I have been sick with it for the last 3 days with this being my 3rd attack in 1 year, 2 of which has only been about 2 weeks apart. I have a general dull ache with shooting pain in my RUQ under my ribs, especially after i eat food, even with low to no fat foods as i always have been diagnosed many years ago with IBS, which runs in our family too. I burp more often than i normally would and also have more gas. I also had diarrhea 7 times yesterday. I have an appointment with my GI specialist on January 8th,2014 to dicuss the results.

I dont want to keep something that is an obvious problem, based off a quick review of myself, does surgery seem like something I am a good candidate for, especially with a 1% EF rate?

Thanks,

Jordana

Hello
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
This is not necessary that to remove gallbladder as 5 family members operated for it.
Now you question is excessive burp specially after food ( even low fat) .
Here I would like to tell you one thing that excessive burp may be due to overeating ( however high fat is also a cause) or spicy food so be aware about that.
Beside you can do as , try raising the head of your bed about 4 inches with blocks. It might also help yto avoid eating or drinking for 2 hours before you lie down.To control burp one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them or eat chocolate or pizza or burgers. Also take some antacid but if excessive burp you may need drugs like proton pump inhibitors.

As you mentioned that there was diarrhea ( only 7 times in day and only for one day ) but in my opinion at present no need of any treatment as it was only for one day.
Pain in the right upper quadrant this is main problem so this may be due to .
1 Thickened pleaura as this is the most common cause .Diagnosis can be confirmed by Xray chest .
2 Hepatomegaly , diagnosis can be confirmed by ultrasound of liver.
3 Gallbladder infection ,due to family history this may be the reason of pain. Ultrasound of gallbladder will find out the reason.
In my opinion before a consultant visit , get in an ultrasound of gallbladder and liver and deal according to situation , so visit a physician and get his opinion.
Good luck.
