Frequent Coughing Firm, Beige And Stinky Mucus Plug. Is This Due To Eczema Caused By Mild Lactose Intolerance?
My ten-year-old just coughed up what I assume would be called a mucus plug? About 1cm in diameter. Quite firm but gives a bit when squeezed in a tissue. Sort of a beige color and stinky! She says she has been coughing these things up about once per month for a long time and has never mentioned it to me before. Her only known medical issue is slight lactose intolerance which occasionally causes eczema on her skin. Is this something she should see a doctor about? My reaction has her thinking she s going to die now. :) Thanks.
There is no cause of worry and anything serious being there. What you just described is mucous plug. It occursdue to drying up if secretions in the airwairway, and it takes the shape of airway which is expectorated outside. If she no other respiratory symptoms, I see no reason for concern. Get a Chest Xray done and if it's fine then rest be assured there is no cause for concern. Daily steam inhalation will be beneficial.
I hope it helped.
Do get back to me if you have any other query.
