Had Diagnosed With Hypothroid, Medication Dosage Increased. Anxious, And Unable To Sleep. Blood Test Done Thrown Into Hyperthyroid
I was diagnosed with hypothroid disease twelve years ago. Over time my medication has been increased from 50 mcg to 175 mcg. The last year, I have been unusually hot, anxious, and unable to sleep. Last week , I had blood work done. The report showed that I am thrown into hyperthyroid. Do you have any ideas? Thank you, Kay Harrelson
Hi, Thanks for using Healthcaremagic, You are known case of Hypothyroidism and taking Thyroxine regularly for more than 12 years. If your blood work shows high level of T3 and T4 with low TSH and symptoms suggestive of hyperthyroidism you need to reduce the dose of Thyroxine with consultation of your Physician or Endocrinologist.
Your anxiety and fast heart rate can be controlled rapidly with use of Beta blocker like propranolol but this is prescription medicine so get proper prescription from your Physician.
Later on repeat Thyroid function test and dose of Thyroxine can be adjusted.
Hope this helps. Take care Good Luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D
