Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Saurabh Gupta's Response
Hi and welcome to HCM From description it seems to be soft tissue injury . You need an x-ray to rule out any bony injury. Meanwhile for relieve pain- Use a well-padded seat when sitting and avoid long periods of sitting when possible. Do sitz bath- take warm water in a tub and sit in this.It will relax the muscles around the coccyx. You can take anti -inflammatory drugs like Tablet Motrin 1 tablet as and when required ( do not repeat a dose before 6 hours) with food will help relieve the pain. Apply diclofenac gel on the affected area.
Hope this will helps you. Take care. You can consult me again directly through my profile http://www.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-saurabh-gupta/64132
All your symptoms suggests that you have developed COCCYDYNIA secondary to a fall.
An xray is necessary to rule out any fracture of the coccyx.
In the mean time, to lessen the pain, the following measures have to be taken -
* Sit completely upright with proper posture — keeping your back firmly against the chair, knees level with your hips, feet flat on the floor and shoulders relaxed
* Lean forward while sitting down
* Sit on a doughnut-shaped pillow or wedge (V-shaped) cushion
Your symptoms suggests that you may have fracture of coccyx bone.
You need proper clinical examination and if necessary X-ray of coccyx bone can be taken.
Mostly it is treated conservatively at home by analgesics tablet and sitting on soft surface.
In severe cases short hospitalization may be required and surgical removal done in some cases.
Manual reduction is also done in selected cases.
Get well soon.
Take Care
