Had Inguinal Hernia Repair Using Mesh And Getting Chronic Pain. How To Get Relief?

Hi 5 years ago I had a inguinal hernia repair using mesh and had chronic pain since. I went back to my original surgeon who said. It happens all of the time live with it. I was not told before surgery this could happen. About 6/7 times a year i get terrible tearing burning feelings that last 1/2 weeks. I want to get the mesh out but am not sure if the pain would stop.

Hi and thanks for the query,

I am afraid this is not a rare finding in inguinal hernia repair as you do know already. It might not be very useful getting the mesh removed at this stage. The pain is actually due an chronic o=inflammation and fibrosis in the area. Treatment is generally symptomatic with drugs taken actively during periods of greatest intensity. These range from non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, opiods, morphines depending on the case. IN very intense cases, injections of steroids into affected areas have proven helpful. Wishing you good health.

Thanks and kind regards,

Bain LE, MD.
