Had Sex With Prostitute, Tested Next Day And Results Are Negative, Still What Are Chances Of Contracting HIV?

Dear Doctor,

I had sex last sunday with a prostitute, during the intercourse the condom broke, I maybe realised this by 15 seconds and pulled out. I self masturbated and ejaculated. Following which I immediately went to the sink and washed my penis + glans twice with soap. She told me she got tested and was clear 2 months back. I was freaked out and managed to get the girl to be tested the very next day in the night, a rapid test (either determine or grand ocean strip), she was negative, and so was I, I still thought of the window period and started a course of Truvada OD PO (Tenofovir and Emtricitabine). Today is my fourth day. I am very scared and paranoid. I would appreciate if you could tell me the following: 1.) Am I still at risk of contracting the disease (HIV) 2.) I am planning on doing a PCR RNA after 10 days. ?!? 3.) I am quite stressed out and basically want to find out what the chances are with the above history.

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

True the window period can last up to three months during
which transmission is possible.

She tested negative two months back but its not up to three
months implying if she is in her window period, transmission
is possible.

But the fact that you both tested negative, is a good point given
that she also tested negative 2months ago.

In your case, i really do not think there is much to worry about.
However, to be rest assured you should do the PCR. Meanwhile
the post exposure prophylaxis where i am practicing is not indicated
when the person you had sex with is tested negative.

Hope this helps.
