Had Stroke, Recovered But Dizzy. Trouble To Walk, Sleep Especially At Night. Sleeping Medication Got Worse

Hi my name is Bronwyn, and my husband had a stroke on May 13th 2012. He has since recovered but he is dizzy 24 hours a day and has trouble with balance and walking especially at night. He has pins and needles in his feet and numbness in his right arm. He has trouble sleeping since his stroke and has taken sleeping medication but he had a reaction and got worse so now he doesn't take any sleeping medication.

Is there anything we can do about his dizziness and trouble with balance, he gets worse steadily throughout the day and is not good at night?

Regards

Bronwyn

Neurologist 's  Response
Hi,

Dizziness can be due to the posterior circulation stroke, as there is associated balance problem.

Short course of betahistidine will help to control dizziness.

Need to consult neurologist for reaassesment. One need to also rule out peripheral neuropathy in view of pins and needle sensation in feet associated with stroke

Hope this would help you
