Had Total Knee Replacement. High Blood Sugar. Should Take Novo Rapid?

Hello, My husband just recently (Thursday) had a total knee replacement. His blood sugars have been high and while in hospital was on a sliding scale of Toronto Reg. To night his blood sugar is 18, he is to take 10 units of Novo Rapid now with his meal. Tonight he should take 50 units of Lantus. My question is should he take the Novo Rapid, we cannot reach his family phy. Thank you.

Hello,

Both the insulins have different purpose to fulfil.
Novorapid is a short short acting insulin and helps in the control of postprandial hyperglycemia.

Lantus is a long acting insulin and takes care of the basal control of the blood sugar for 24 hrs.

He needs to take Novo rapid at night.
