Has Big Varicose Veins In Legs, Lower Back Pain. Is It Related To Parasites?

My friend he is Balnise has big varacoise veins in the back of his legs, recently gave him bad pain while in the snow in France, personally I think the veins are linked to parasits, what is your opinion? He mostly lives n a damp area washes and drinks from the polluted creek that runs thru the property, he also has bad lower back pain , he is very skinny but has muscles due to surfing and hard work... What should he do?

Thank you for your question.

From your description, these are likely to be Varicose Veins.

Your friend needs to see a Vascular Interventional Radiologist to have a Doppler Ultrasound to confirm these.

This can then be treated by an Interventional Radiologist like myself by either Endovenous Laser or Radiofrequency Ablation done by a minimally invasive method.

Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Varicose veins are not caused by parasitic infections. They develop due to the presence of incompetent valves in the veins. Normally the valves should act like "ball valve" which should prevent back flow of blood. In case of incompetent valves, the blood that is pumped up will come down again and gets pooled up leading to varicosities.

I personally feel that varicose veins and lower back pain are no way related.
