Has Ulcertative Colitus. Bleeding Ulcer, Nausea, Bleeding In Stool. What To Do?
my son has had ulcertative colitus for 1 yr already and we just found out last month that he had a bleeding ulcer. he was hospitalized for 1 week and it has been 3 weeks since he has been out and now he just told me that he has been feeling nausea and has started bleeding in his stool. he goes to the bathroom more than 6 times a day. What do I do now?
Hi and thanks for the query, Its important you take him back to consultation. It would be appropriate for a reevaluation by your physician. This could probably be a relapse, or requires readaptation of the treatment. Complications of ulcerative colitis like intestinal perforations, which is however rare must be considered and excluded well ahead of time. Severe dehydration due to excessive stooling could set in, and considering the fact he is nauseating, treating him with intravenous fluids at this point in time to avoid severe dehydration would be a good option. I suggestive you take him back to his physician for reevaluation. Thanks and best regards, Luchuo, MD.
