Have Chrons Disease On Cimzia. Have Hip Pain, Difficulty In Walking, Feels Like Arthritis. Cause And Treatment?

I have Chrons Disease and have been in Cimzia for 5 months now. I have recently experienced a terrible pain in my hip. After sitting, I get up and it is difficult to walk and painful. As I walk more, the pain subsides. The pain goes from the right side of my hip to the left side. It almost feels like arthritis. Could this be from the Cimzia? Also, I have been on and off of steroids (predinsone) for about 20 years - could this be the cause of the pain too? thank you.

Hi and thanks for the query,

It would be necessary to know the cause of the inflammation. Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate and C reactive protein levels are important to know the degree of inflammation. A clinical review shall be most helpful too. Morning stiffness, swelling of other joints, fever or muscle pain and fatigue could further suggest arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or other systemic disease. An X ray of the affected joints could also be useful in showing any degenerative lesions at the level of the bones guiding the diagnosis of joint disease.
It is however important to note the Crohn s disease could still have in some cases joint manifestations.
I suggest you consult your physician for a proper review and evaluation. Kind regards.
