Have IBS, Prolonged Period With Insomnia, Mood Swings And Inability To Concentrate. Thyroid And Blood Tests Are Normal. What Is Wrong?

Hi, I went to see my GP because because I was hoping to reduce my anti depressants. I have suffered with insomnia fo 2-3 years. I have new symptoms. I have mood swings, and my concentration keeps going. I feel tired and run down. My glands in my neck are raised and sometimes throbbing but nothing develops. My IBS is playing up and my periods are all over the place and prolonged. I tought I was going through early menopause but the blood test came back normal. The thyroid came back satisfactory. Not sure what that means as I haven't yet seen my GP. Thyroid problems do run in my family. I am 40 years old and I would like to know what it means when a blood test comes back satisfactory and will I need treatment or will my gp just keep and eye on me. It will be nice to know if it is my thyroid causing these symptoms.

Hi,

To answer what "satisfactory" results mean with regards to thyroid, I'd suggest to send in your thyroid hormones levels. You can address to me, so I can assist you specifically.

Depending on the test results (numbers and not impressions), I can give an exact answer to you.

Otherwise, you can wait for the next appointment with your GP and waiting for his opinion.

With regards to menopause, there is another stage called "pre-menopause" before entering menopause. Therefore, although your hormonal levels were ok, they would have greater oscillations during your entire cycle.

All the best!
