Have Chest And Leg Pain. Diagnosed As Sciatica. Could I Have Heart Problems?

I have chest pains that I have always thought was acid/idigestion and a pain in my leg which was told was sciatica . My father has angina and someone I know has just had a stroke following a pain in his leg just like mine....could I have heart problems/ Each time I go to the doctor (which I admit is rarely as all they do is prescribe painkillersof gaviscon) I tell them what I thin k is wrong and they give me medication ....should I go in and ask for tests or is it probably nothing? Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

The individual who suffered a stroke and had a history of leg pain could have had a stroke for many different reasons. May be he/she had other risk factors to a stroke eg. high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, etc. His leg pain could have just been coincidental. Also, there is a condition of the leg called deep vein thrombosis which predisposes to many other more serious conditions like pulmonary embolism, clot/emboli formation, etc. All these conditions can have more serious repercussions in an individual if not properly managed/cared for.

But, a sciatica has no such risk to other conditions. Do not worry. If at all you think this could still be a problem, you could request your doctor to conduct an ultrasound of your leg. This will rule out/diagnose the condition.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
